Bingo Brunch

I was given a graphic designer’s dream: artistic freedom on a project. Gone were the restrictions on color and typeface, but instead a big empty space appeared. It was a little daunting. The project entailed creating a print poster and digital designs for a Bingo fundraiser. And the only suggestion given was to make the campaign be eye-catching like a band poster.

I set to work on research. Since the poster was for a Bingo fundraiser, I first looked up Bingo advertisements. My first attempt was with Bingo balls, but they looked more like billiard balls. I decided to focus more on the cards. The lines intrigued me and I figured I could represent Bingo more abstractly. I realized the lines were like a chess board and with that, I had more freedom.

I decided to go bold with pink to compliment the turquoise. I tried to put all the text inside the boxes, but it didn’t work. It looked too busy and well boxy. In the end, the large amount of text flowing outside of the boxes was the right thing to do.

The poster design was well-received. I also made digital designs for our website and social media. The fundraiser was a huge success with a packed audience in the restaurant. I like to think my eye-catching posters played a big part in this.
